Why haven't my widgets updated with my new reviews?

Because widgets are cached for one hour. A new review will normally show up within the hour, and there is nothing you need to do.

Why the cache exists

Your widget is loaded by every single visitor to the page it sits on. If each of those visits fetched your reviews fresh, the widget would be slower for your visitors and would put far more load on your site than it needs to.

Caching the widget for an hour means it loads almost instantly, however much traffic the page gets. The trade-off is that a brand-new review takes up to an hour to appear — which, for a review that will sit on your website for years, is a reasonable price for a page that loads quickly.

Checking a review has actually arrived

If you want to confirm a review is in Cloutly rather than waiting on the widget, open your Inbox. If it is there, the widget will catch up.

Worth knowing: a review has to reach Cloutly before it can reach the widget. For sites connected by a link rather than a direct login, reviews arrive on a regular sync rather than the instant they are posted, so a very fresh review may simply not have been picked up yet.

When it is not the cache

If a review has been in your Inbox for several hours and still is not showing on your site, that is not the cache and it is worth telling us. A couple of things to check first:

  • Your widget's filters. If it is set to show only 4–5 star reviews, or only a particular location or review site, a new review outside that will never appear. Check under Customise.
  • Your browser. Load the page in a private window — your own browser may be holding an older copy than everyone else is seeing.

If it still looks wrong after that, message us through the chat on this page with the page it is on and roughly when the review came in.
